In North Carolina and elsewhere, the issues that lead to divorce are often as unique as the spouses themselves. While many couples have been together for 10 or more years before deciding to end their marriage, that is not always the case. Some, such as TV stars Chrishell Stause and Justin Hartley, file for divorce after just a couple of years.

There is not always a single, cataclysmic event that prompts a divorce petition. In Stause’s and Hartley’s case, it was Hartley who decided he wanted to move on in life. In his petition, he cited irreconcilable differences as his reason for wanting a divorce.

Stause has spoken publicly about her personal life, saying she was shocked beyond words when her husband filed divorce papers. She has told friends and reporters alike that she truly loves Hartley and feels like she is losing her best friend. Hartley cited the separation date as July 8, 2019, although he continued to make public appearances with his former wife until November of that same year.

When one spouse is more adamant about wanting to divorce than the other, it can cause emotional upheaval, as well as legal complications. Any North Carolina resident in need of support regarding how to file a divorce petition or how to answer a petition a spouse has filed may schedule a consultation with an attorney who has divorce litigation experience. Relying on experienced legal representation is the easiest way for a concerned spouse to protect his or her rights and financial interests in court.
