Child support: Avengers star Jeremy Renner in dispute

On Behalf of | Jun 22, 2020 | Divorce | 0 comments

When North Carolina parents decide to divorce, they must address numerous child-related issues. In addition to custody or visitation, child support is another high priority topic for many parents. If the parents in a particular case disagree on such matters, litigation may be necessary to resolve the issue. Avengers star Jeremy Renner understands all too well what battling out custody and support issues in court is like, because he is currently entangled in a legal proceeding with Sonni Pacheco, his former wife and mother of his daughter.

Pacheco has accused Renner of failing to pay approximately $500,000 in back child support. She has filed a petition in court to request that the judge order him to pay up, and has also asked the court to order Renner to pay $100,000 in legal fees for Pacheco. Pacheco says she has had to exhaust her personal savings to financially provide for her 7-year-old daughter because of Renner’s failure to fulfill his obligation, which was ordered to be paid by April 1, 2020.

Renner has also filed a petition in court, requesting lowered child support payments. He says Pacheco has mishandled monies from his daughter’s trust fund as well. Complex cases like this one can take months, even longer, to resolve.

Disputes over finances in divorce can be complicated and stressful. It is wise for any concerned North Carolina parent who is struggling to resolve similar child support issues to request a consultation with an experienced family law attorney. An attorney can carefully review the case and make recommendations as to what might be the best course of action in a particular set of circumstances. An attorney can also protect a client’s parental rights and make sure children’s best interests are a central focus in all proceedings.
